Meet Chompoo - The Pink-Eared Joy

Chompoo, meaning "pink" in Thai, is a remarkable 30-year-old female elephant whose name perfectly reflects her adorable pink-hued trunk. A testament to her beauty, Chompoo is not just visually striking; she also carries a heartwarming story.

Rescued from a riding camp in 2017, Chompoo's past has left her with visible scars on her head—a reminder of the hardships she endured. Tragically, during her years in captivity, she suffered severe injuries, including her ear being ripped off due to the harsh methods used to control her. However, despite her rough start, Chompoo has transformed her life here at our sanctuary, embracing the joy of freedom and companionship.

One of the most touching aspects of Chompoo's journey is her role as the adoptive mother of Doi Pho, the spirited 6-year-old elephant. Their bond is truly special, as Chompoo nurtures and guides Doi Pho, providing her with the love and support she needs as she grows. The two are often seen frolicking and exploring together in the lush greenery of the sanctuary, showcasing the beauty of their companionship.

Chompoo loves nature and can frequently be observed playfully interacting with her environment. Though she has a healthy appetite, she can be a bit of a picky eater! Her friends often find creative ways to entice her with delicious treats, understanding her unique preferences. Her friendly disposition shines through her interactions with people; she adores receiving hugs and gentle touches from her caregivers and visitors.
